What did Jesus tell Ananias He would show Paul about suffering?

The Lord Jesus told Ananias that He would show Saul of Tarsus, later known as Paul, how great things he must suffer for His name's sake. This was fulfilled when Paul was beaten, scourged, cold, naked, often sick, and in fear for his life.

Les explains that in Acts chapter 9, the Lord Jesus is speaking to Ananias and tells him, "For I will show him how great things he must suffer for my name's sake" (s338–s341). The context then stresses that Paul indeed suffered greatly: he was beaten, scourged, cold, naked, many times sick, and living in fear for his life because of what the Lord Jesus had promised him (s342–s351). This is connected to the coming change and fork in the road, as the Lord would reveal Himself in Saul of Tarsus, now known as Paul, who would bear His name before Gentiles, kings, and the children of Israel (s333–s337; s352–s357).

Acts 9:16

For I will shew him how great things he must suffer for my name’s sake.
