What did Stephen preach to the leaders of Israel in Acts 7?

Stephen preached Israel’s historical record to the nation’s leaders, bringing them to the time of Christ’s crucifixion and rejection. He proclaimed that Jesus was the Christ, the Messiah of Israel, just as Christ Himself and Peter had done. The leaders rejected his message, stopped their ears, cast him out of the city, and stoned him.

Les explains that Stephen had addressed the leaders of the nation of Israel and walked them through the whole historical record of the nation, bringing them up to the time of Christ’s crucifixion and rejection. Like Christ Himself and Peter at Pentecost, Stephen proclaimed that He was the Christ, the Messiah of Israel. The context recalls Peter’s earlier words: you killed Him, you murdered Him, but God raised Him from the dead, and He is still in a position to be your King. At verse 57, the leaders cried, stopped their ears, ran upon Stephen with one accord, cast him out of the city, and stoned him.
