What timeline did the Old Testament prophets look forward to?

The Old Testament prophets looked forward to a single timeline: Christ would come, suffer, die, be raised from the dead, then the wrath of God would fall, and the Kingdom would be set up. They did not foresee the church age, the calling out of a body of Jew and Gentile.

Les explains that the Old Testament prophets had only one timeline in view. They looked for Christ to come, suffer, die, rise from the dead, then for God's wrath to fall, and then for the Kingdom to be set up. He notes that the church age is absent from that Old Testament expectation: not a word in the Gospels that God would turn to the Gentiles and call out of them a body of Christ, of Jew and Gentile. Peter, for example, had no concept of anything other than this Old Testament timeline. On Pentecost, when accused of drunkenness, Peter replied that it was only the third hour, and what was happening was the fulfillment of prophecy.
