What was Abraham ready to begin in Genesis 15?

In Genesis 15, Abraham was ready to begin the physical nature of the land. He was going to have children, though the first, Ishmael, was not according to God's plan. This chapter gives a real example of true prophecy: God told Abram his seed would be strangers in a land not theirs, serving and afflicted 400 years.

Les explains that in Genesis 15 Abraham had come along and was ready to begin the physical nature of the land. He was going to have children; the first one, Ishmael, was not according to God's plan. Les calls Genesis 15 a real example of true prophecy. In verse 13, God said unto Abram, "Know of a surety," meaning it is going to happen: Abram's seed would be a stranger in a land that was not theirs. They would not be in the promised land but would serve and be afflicted, and this would cover a period of 400 years. Les notes that this is how prophecy always works, telling something future with certainty.
