What did God promise about Abram's lineage blessing the nations?

God promised Abram that through a lineage of people coming from him, all the families of the earth would be blessed. This was part of the Abrahamic covenant, which also promised a great nation, blessing, a great name, and blessing or cursing based on how others treated him.

Les explains that God made a special covenant with Abram out of Ur of the Chaldees, who was a Syrian, not a Jew. In Genesis 12:1-3, God told Abram to leave his country, kindred, and father's house for a land God would show him. God promised to make of him a great nation, bless him, make his name great, and make him a blessing. God would bless those who bless Abram and curse those who curse him. Les teaches that "in thee" means through a lineage of people coming from this man, all the families of the earth would be blessed. This Abrahamic covenant was given to the man who would become father of a race of people never before on earth, a new race or nation instituted by God's sovereignty and known as Israel. The Jews come as a result of this covenant, which promises a nation of people and implies they must have their own geographical area, a homeland.

Genesis 12:3

And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.
