What is grace, biblically speaking?
Grace is the fact that there is nothing you and I can do to merit favor with God. It is not legalism; believers are not under Law but under Grace. The only thing we can do is believe that everything God has said is true and that everything He has done is from His direction.
Les explains that the Galatians had turned their back on Paul's Gospel of pure Grace and were believing the Judaizers that they had to practice the Law. This was a perversion, not another gospel. The purpose of the letter is to declare, 'You're not under Law, you're under Grace.' Grace is simply the fact that there is nothing you and I can do to merit favor with God. The only thing we can do is believe that everything God has said is true and everything He has done has been from His direction. This is still the heart cry today: we are not under anything legalistic, but under Grace.
