Who was pressuring the Galatian assemblies to return to the Law?
The Galatian assemblies were being pressured by Judaizers to return to the Law. Paul wrote his letter to them urgently because they were being bombarded by these Judaizers, who insisted on adding Law-keeping to the Gospel of Grace. He warned them not to come back under the Law.
Les teaches that Paul wrote Galatians under intense duress, even printing it in large block letters because of poor eyesight, to reach the Galatian assemblies who were being bombarded by Judaizers to come back under the Law. The letter's constant warning is that believers are not under Law but under Grace, and they must not let these people pervert the Gospel by adding something to it. Les notes this is appropriate today because we face the same kind of bombardment, as most people want to merit favor with God, but God says either you believe He finished it or it profits nothing. Chronologically, Galatians was written probably a couple of years before the Corinthian letters.
