Why do so many people dislike Paul's teaching on grace?
Many dislike Paul’s teaching on grace because it runs contrary to human thought: people want to do something and feel they have merited favor with God, but God will have none of it. Grace requires believing God finished the work; adding anything profits nothing.
Les teaches that he would not state it as strongly as the letter writer who said most people hate Paul’s doctrines of grace, but he knows they do not like it. The reason is that most people want to do something and want to feel they have somehow merited favor with God, and God will have none of it. God says either you believe that He has finished it, or it will profit you nothing. This runs contrary to human thought. In Galatians, the apostle constantly warns that believers are not under Law but under Grace, and they must not let people pervert the Gospel by adding something to it. The same kind of bombardment is present today.
