Why did Paul have to be married if he was on the Sanhedrin?
Sanhedrin membership required a man to have a family, because he had to know how to deal with family problems. Therefore Paul had to be married and have children to qualify as a member. This explains why he was understood to have a wife and family.
Les teaches that he was sure Paul had a wife and family because Paul was a member of the Sanhedrin, and in order to be a member of the Sanhedrin you had to have family. You had to know how to deal with family problems. As a result of Paul being sold out to Christ, he probably lost his wife; she probably turned against him because he had been a high man in the Judaistic religion. There is a slight hint that there might have been a son. Whatever the case, Paul turned his back on everything in order to take the Gospel to the pagan, ungodly, immoral Gentiles. He left his material wealth behind and counted it as dumb for the Gospel's sake.
