Les Feldick Bible Study

Why does Les believe Paul had a wife and family?

Paul's membership in the Sanhedrin implies he had a wife and family, since Sanhedrin members were required to have families and know how to handle family problems. His total commitment to Christ likely cost him his wife, and possibly a son, as she may have turned against him.

Les explains that he had long been sure Paul had a wife and family because Paul was a member of the Sanhedrin, and to be a member of the Sanhedrin you had to have family and know how to deal with family problems. He suggests that as a result of Paul being sold out to Christ, Paul probably lost his wife, who likely turned against him, since he had been a high man in the Judaistic religion. Les also notes a slight hint that there might have been a son. Whatever happened, Paul turned his back on everything to take the Gospel to the pagan, ungodly, immoral Gentiles. Earlier, Les also mentions that Paul left his material wealth behind and counted it but dumb in order to take the Gospel.
