What would have happened if Paul told people what he saw and heard in heaven?
Had Paul repeated what he saw and heard in glory, people would have fallen down and worshiped him. Because he was only human, God could not permit that, so He placed a restriction on Paul that he could not repeat those heavenly sights and sounds.
Les explains that if God had permitted Paul to repeat what he had seen and heard, the human race would have worshiped him. Paul was just as human as anyone else and never expected worship from his converts, because he was not God. This shows one of mankind's failures: people tend to worship something or someone. It is why Noah's Ark has never been discovered, because if it were uncovered the world would flock to worship it. The same is true of other things God has kept hidden, knowing the human heart. If Paul could have rehearsed to his people or to the Roman world what he had seen and heard, they would have fallen down and worshiped him, so God put the stigma on him that he could not repeat it. This happened fourteen years back from where Les was teaching, in the early 50s, early in Paul's missionary career. Even during intense suffering, as he was beaten, what sustained him was what he saw and heard in glory.
