Where was Abraham in Luke 16, and was he in the torment side of hell?
In Luke 16, Abraham is seen far off with Lazarus in his bosom. Abraham is in hell, but not the torment side; he is on the paradise side. The rich man is in torment, while Abraham and Lazarus are comforted.
Les teaches from Luke 16:23 that Abraham is seen a far off with Lazarus in his bosom, while the rich man is in torment. He explains that Abraham too is in hell, but he is not in the torment side; he is on the paradise side. The rich man asks Father Abraham for mercy and for Lazarus to dip his finger in water and cool his tongue because he is tormented in the flame. Abraham replies that the rich man received his good things and Lazarus evil, but now Lazarus is comforted and the rich man is tormented. So Abraham was not in the torment side of hell, but in the paradise side.
And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.
