How does Les answer people who say they only follow Jesus?
He answers by pointing to Scripture, citing Philippians 3:17, where Paul tells the brethren to be followers together of him and to mark those who walk as he did, as an example. He clarifies this does not diminish Jesus, but Jesus was God and we cannot walk in His steps, whereas Paul was human like us.
Les explains that when people say they only follow Jesus, he responds that this is not what his Bible tells him. He directs them to Philippians chapter 3, verse 17, where Paul, writing to Gentile believers in Philippi, says, “Brethren, be followers together of me, and mark them who walk so as you have us, Paul, as an example.” Les clarifies this does not take anything away from the Lord Jesus. He points out that when Jesus walked the footsteps of Galilee and across the Galilee Sea, He was God, and we cannot walk in the steps of God. Les illustrates that he could not follow Jesus walking across the Sea of Galilee; he would sink like Peter. Therefore, we have to be careful how we take these things, because Paul was just as human as Les is.
Brethren, be followers together of me, and mark them which walk so as ye have us for an ensample.
