Why did Paul assure the Corinthians they could trust the men collecting their offering?
Paul assured the Corinthians because the men coming, likely led by Titus, were men of integrity. They did not need to worry about entrusting their offering to them, since those men would deliver every penny to Jerusalem, where it was supposed to go.
Les explains that Paul was telling the Corinthians the men coming, probably headed up by Titus, were men of integrity. They didn't have to worry about turning over their offering to them, because every penny would get to Jerusalem where it was supposed to go. Paul also sent the brethren so his boasting about the Corinthians would not be in vain, and Les says Paul used a little psychology, building them up. He noted that Titus and the gentlemen were already making collections in the poorest part of mountainous Greece, and when they came to a cultural and commercial center like Corinth, more wealth would be available.
