Who was Barnabas and what did he do with his land in Acts 4?

Barnabas, originally named Hosea, was surnamed by the apostles, meaning son of consolation. He was a Levite from Cyprus and later helped Paul. Having land on Cyprus, he sold it, brought the money, and laid it at the apostles' feet.

Les explains that in Acts 4, as many as were possessors of lands or houses sold them and brought the price, laying it at the apostles' feet so distribution could be made to every man according as he had need. He identifies Hosea, surnamed Barnabas by the apostles—interpreted the son of consolation—as a Levite from the island of Cyprus who later helped Paul. Having land on Cyprus, Barnabas sold it, brought the money, and laid it at the apostles' feet.
