What did Jesus do when the scribes and Pharisees brought the woman taken in adultery to Him?

Jesus stooped down and wrote on the ground with His finger, acting as though He did not hear them. When they continued pressing Him, He lifted Himself up and said that the one among them without sin should cast the first stone at her.

Les explains that this was in John chapter 8, where the Lord Jesus Himself dealt with a woman who was a known adulterer. The scribes and Pharisees brought her into the midst and said she was taken in adultery, in the very act—not hearsay, but proof positive. They reminded Him that Moses' law commanded such a person to be stoned, and they asked what He said, tempting Him so they might accuse Him. Les points out that Jesus stooped down and with His finger wrote on the ground, as though He heard them not, totally oblivious to their screams for her death. When they kept prodding Him, He lifted Himself up and said, “He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.”

John 8:6

This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not.
