where was Titus coming from and what had he been doing there?
Titus was coming from Corinth. He had been there working among the Corinthian believers while Paul was over at Ephesus. His coming comforted Paul, and he brought news of the Corinthians' earnest desire, mourning, and fervent mind toward Paul.
Les explains that Paul had missed Titus at Troas, and it must have been a fair amount of time afterward, because Paul had been up at Philippi, sick in bed, and had moved on down before he finally came in contact with Titus. Titus was coming from Corinth, where he had been working among the Corinthian believers while Paul was over at Ephesus. Paul says he was comforted not only by Titus's coming, but by the consolation with which Titus was comforted in the Corinthians, when he told Paul of their earnest desire, their mourning, and their fervent mind toward Paul.
