What does 'our mouth is open unto you' mean in 2 Corinthians 6:11?
Paul's phrase 'our mouth is open unto you' means he has spoken freely and openly to the Corinthians, holding nothing back. They heard everything he said. It expresses unrestrained communication joined to an enlarged heart, showing love for carnal believers despite their failures.
Les explains that 2 Corinthians 6:11 is set against the Corinthian church's spiritual condition: they were babes in Christ and carnal, not Paul's pride and joy like the Ephesians or Philippians. Yet Paul's love for these carnal believers is evident. 'Our mouth is open unto you' means he had been able to speak to them and they heard everything he said. 'Our heart is enlarged' means his love was enveloping them despite their failures. He then says they were not straightened in him but in their own bowels, a Hebraism for the innermost being, heart, or soul. The gospel had taken hold enough to bring them out of paganism and separate them to a degree, but they were still carnal and had a long way to go.
O ye Corinthians, our mouth is open unto you, our heart is enlarged.
