What did Paul count as dung for the sake of the Gospel?
Paul counted his former wealth, prestige, and religious advantages as dung for the sake of the Gospel. He had been rich, profited more than his equals in Judaism, and probably had one of Jerusalem’s better homes, yet he cast all that aside as refuse for the Gospel.
Les explains that Paul had been one of the top Pharisees in Judaism and was well known among the Jewish religious leaders. He also says Paul had profited more than his equals in the Jewish religion, was likely wealthy, and probably had one of the better homes in Jerusalem. Yet Philippians tells us he cast all that aside and counted it as dung for the sake of the Gospel. In II Corinthians 6 he describes himself as sorrowful yet always rejoicing, poor yet making many rich, having nothing yet possessing all things.
