Who did grace and truth come by, according to John 1:17?

John 1:17 says grace and truth came by Jesus Christ. It contrasts the law given by Moses with grace and truth coming through Christ. Scripture presents Christ as the epitome of truth, while the devil is identified as the opposite, the father of lies.

Les explains that John 1:17 sets the law given by Moses against grace and truth, which came by Jesus Christ, and then he calls Christ the epitome of truth. To show the direct opposite of truth, Les points to John 8:44, where Jesus tells the Jews their father is the devil, a murderer from the beginning who did not abide in the truth because there is no truth in him. When the devil speaks a lie, it originates with him, for he is a liar and the father of it. Les emphasizes that the devil is the originator of every lie.

John 1:17

For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.
