Who are candidates for reconciliation?
Those who have experienced a separation or distancing from another are candidates for reconciliation. This includes a husband and wife who have drifted apart and become almost enemies. In the spiritual realm, man and God are candidates, because the same separation occurred after God created man for fellowship.
Les explains that reconciliation is only necessary where a separation has first occurred. He illustrates with a husband and wife who have never had difficulties—there is no point in reconciliation for them. But a couple with marital problems who have drifted apart and become almost enemies are candidates for reconciliation, which is the goal of marriage counseling. Les then applies this to the spiritual realm: the same separation happened between man and God. God created man in His own image, had fellowship with him in the Garden, and walked with Adam and Eve in the cool of the day, where everything was sweet fellowship. That separation makes man and God candidates for reconciliation.
