What did God have to do so people would not hold on to temple worship?
God prompted the Roman army to destroy the temple. He had to have the temple totally destroyed and the priesthood uprooted, and Israel sent out into the nations, so there would be no temptation whatsoever to hang on to temple worship. This made it profoundly certain that we are no longer under the Law.
Les explains that there is no temple worship today because we are not under the Law. In order to make it so profoundly certain that we are no longer under the Law, God prompted the Roman Army to destroy the temple. If the temple had kept operating, Christianity would likely never have gotten off the ground because of profound Jewish opposition—the temple and priesthood were still viable, and it was considered the only place to worship. So God had the temple totally destroyed, the priesthood uprooted, and Israel sent out into the nations of the world, leaving no temptation whatsoever to hang on to temple worship. This aligns with Paul's point that since the death, burial, and resurrection and the revelation of the gospel of grace, henceforth we do not know Christ after the flesh and are no longer going by the things He taught Israel under the Law.
