What would have happened to Christianity if the temple had not been destroyed?

If the temple had continued operating, Christianity would likely never have gotten off the ground. The viable temple and priesthood would have caused profound Jewish opposition, since it remained the only place to worship, leaving no removal of temptation to hold to temple worship.

Les explains that if the temple had kept right on operating, Christianity would not have gotten off the ground. There would have been profound Jewish opposition because the temple and priesthood were still viable, and it was the only place to worship. God therefore had the temple totally destroyed and the priesthood uprooted, and Israel was sent out into the nations, so there was no temptation to hang on to temple worship. This made it profoundly certain that we are no longer under the Law and do not know Christ after the flesh.
