Why is every human being dead in trespasses and sins?

Every human being is dead in trespasses and sins because they are sons and daughters of Adam. This is the lot of every human being, not because of paganism, religion, or immorality. Ephesians 2:1 describes Gentiles as dead in trespasses and sins before being made alive.

Les explains that Ephesians 2:1 was written to a predominantly Gentile congregation in Ephesus, though a scattering of Jewish believers was present. He emphasizes that being dead in trespasses and sins is the lot of every human being, not because they were pagan, religious, or immoral, but because they were sons and daughters of Adam. He connects this with II Corinthians 5:14, where Paul concludes that if one died for all, then were all dead. Les drums in that everyone was dead in sin because we are the offspring of Adam. Ephesians 2:2 further says that while we were dead in trespasses and sins, we were living in the flesh.
