Why is every human being a sinner?
Every human being is a sinner because all people are born from Adam, and that birth places them under sin. This is a universal condition: no one escapes it by background, works, or merit. The only remedy for sin is the gospel—that Christ died, was buried, shed His blood, and rose from the dead.
Les teaches that every human is a sinner by virtue of being born from Adam, not because of personal background or works. He explains that people try to merit favor with God, but salvation is not by works; attempting to earn it puts one in debt to God, and God will never owe any man anything, not even a righteous man like Abraham. Abraham's believing put him in right standing with God, and likewise, when we believe the gospel—that Christ died, was buried, shed His blood, and rose from the dead—God imputes His righteousness to us. The only remedy for our sin is that gospel.
