What motivates works that will count for reward at the judgment seat of Christ?

At the judgment seat of Christ, works count for reward when the motive is love for the Lord and the desire that He receive the glory. The issue is not how much is done but why it is done; self-exalting efforts count for nothing.

Les explains that believers will appear before the judgment seat of Christ for what they have done in their earthly sojourn. This judgment is only for believers; there will be no unbelievers there. The emphasis is not so much on how much has been done as on the motivation behind it. If the only reason he taught was to show people what he knew, it would count for nothing. Works count for reward when they are done because we love the Lord and because He will receive the glory. If they are done to show people how much we can accomplish, they count for nothing and are no more than wood, hay, and stubble. Les then reads II Corinthians 5:10 and returns to I Corinthians 3:12 for the same idea.
