Why do people today still fail to believe the Word of God?
Unbelief is the reason. Like Israel at the golden calf, people today cannot bring themselves to believe the Word of God. The intellectual community often tries to argue it away from a highly educated position and refuses to say, 'This is what God says.' Consequently, they do not enter His rest because of unbelief.
Les explains that the same problem exists today as in Israel's day: people will not, and for some reason cannot, believe the Word of God. He points to the golden calf incident as evidence of unbelief. If they had believed in the holy and righteous God Moses was dealing with in the mountain, they would not have asked for an idol or engaged in lascivious dancing. Faith takes care of everything, but unbelief kept them from entering God's rest. Likewise, the intellectual community tries to argue the Word away from their highly educated position and cannot bring themselves to say, 'This is what God says.' So today's failure is rooted in unbelief, not lack of information.
