What does 1 John 1:9 say we have if we sin?
When we sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. God expects us to confess the sin, not beg for forgiveness, since sins are already forgiven. The advocate points to His blood, saying the believer is under the blood.
Les teaches that 1 John 1:9 follows the tabernacle picture of propitiation and Christ as high priest who presented His blood. He explains that if we sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. The moment we sin, God expects us simply to confess it and call it what God calls it. We do not have to beg for forgiveness or repeat a cliche, because our sins are forgiven. When we confess, the Lord Jesus, the advocate, points to His blood and says, "Father, he's under the blood, she's under the blood." No one accuses.
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
