Where did the high priest stop on his way in with the blood of the offering?
The high priest would stop at the labor of cleansing on his way in with the blood of the offering. This was part of the required washing and cleansing before he could proceed further. He had to wash and wash and wash in running water to depict a complete physical cleansing.
Les explains that as the high priest took the blood of that offering, he would again make his way, and he would no doubt stop at the labor of cleansing. He would come on through. Les notes that at one time he had to take the coals from off of here, not the labor, and he would bring them in and put them on the altar of incense, and the smoke of that would more or less be his protection, his covering. This stop at the labor of cleansing was part of the day of atonement ritual, following the initial washing and putting on of linen undergarments and holy garments. Aaron first had to offer a bullock for his own sin before he could proceed.
