Was Melchizedek a priest under the law?

No. Melchizedek was not a priest under the law. He was a high priest forever, not of the tribe of Levi, but a priest of all, covering the whole spectrum of the human race. Christ is a high priest after the order of Melchizedek, not after Aaron.

Les teaches that Melchizedek was a high priest forever, and Christ was a high priest after the order of Melchizedek, not after Aaron. He points back to Genesis, showing Melchizedek was not a priest under the law. He was not a priest of the tribe of Levi, but a priest of all, covering the whole spectrum of the human race. Therefore Christ is not a high priest after the order of Aaron, but after the order of Melchizedek—high priest not just of the Jew, but of whomever we might be. This connects to Hebrews chapter 9, where Christ became a high priest of good things to come by a greater and more perfect tabernacle.
