What kind of priest was Melchizedek?
Melchizedek was a priest of the Most High God, not a priest of Judaism or of Moses and Aaron. He was High Priest of the whole human race, since Israel was not yet on the scene, and a picture of the priesthood Christ would fulfill.
Les explains that Melchizedek brought forth bread and wine, which was unusual because bread and wine were never part of the Old Testament tabernacle worship. Les teaches this pictured Christ's broken body and shed blood, pointing to His death, burial, and resurrection. Melchizedek was not a priest of Judaism or of Moses and Aaron, but a priest of the Most High God, a term Scripture uses predominantly for the non-Jewish world. Since Israel was not yet on the scene, Melchizedek was High Priest of the whole human race, a picture of the priesthood Christ would fulfill. Les also notes that the Most High God is not just the God of Israel but the God of all.
