Who did Abraham confront after defeating the kings that had overrun Sodom?

After defeating the kings that had overrun Sodom, Abraham confronted Melchizedek, the high priest. Melchizedek came from Salem, also called Shalom, the city of peace, which is Jerusalem. He was a high priest forever, not a priest under the law or of Levi, and Christ later served as high priest after his order.

Les explains that this confrontation occurred after Abraham defeated the kings that had overrun Sodom. The man was Melchizedek, the high priest, from the little-known village of Salem, or Shalom, the city of peace, which is Jerusalem. Les emphasizes that Melchizedek was a high priest forever, not a priest under the law or of the tribe of Levi, but a priest of all, covering the whole human race. Christ is not a high priest after the order of Aaron but after the order of Melchizedek, making Him high priest not only of the Jew but of whomever we might be. Les connects this to Hebrews 9, where Christ became a high priest of good things to come by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, and to Moses receiving the pattern of the heavenly tabernacle.
