What were the tabernacle furnishings made of, and how was the mercy seat different?

The tabernacle furnishings were made of wood covered with gold. The mercy seat differed in that it was made of nothing but pure, beaten gold, not wood overlaid, and it sat behind the veil with cherubim overshadowing the Ark of the Covenant, which became the mercy seat.

Les explains that the various furnishings were all made of wood and covered with gold, except the mercy seat. The mercy seat was made of nothing but pure gold, pure beaten gold. It sat behind the veil in the Holy of Holies, with cherubim formed from it overshadowing the Ark of the Covenant, which became the mercy seat. The veil separated the Holy of Holies from the main sanctuary and pictured the body of Christ. Only the high priest entered behind it once a year.
