What was Bezalel given knowledge of, and what work did he devise?
Bezalel was filled with the Spirit of God in wisdom, understanding, and knowledge of all manner of workmanship, not spiritual things only. He was enabled to devise curious work in gold, silver, and brass, and with wisdom of heart to work all manner of work.
Les explains that Moses told Israel the Lord had called Bezalel by name, the son of Uriah, the son of Hur of the tribe of Judah, and filled him with the Spirit of God in wisdom, understanding, and knowledge. But the context clarifies that this was in workmanship, not spiritual things. Les stresses that God is concerned with every facet of daily life, physical and material as well as spiritual. Bezalel was filled with knowledge of all manner of workmanship to devise curious work in gold, silver, and brass. Verse 35 adds that God filled these craftsmen with wisdom of heart to work all manner of work.
And to devise curious works, to work in gold, and in silver, and in brass,
And in the cutting of stones, to set them, and in carving of wood, to make any manner of cunning work.
