Les Feldick Bible Study

Why did the feminist movement try to get the Bible out of universities?

According to the transcript, the feminist movement tried to remove the Bible from universities because they did not like the letters of Paul. They objected specifically to Paul's writings; if Paul could be taken out, they could probably stomach the rest of the Bible. The objection was to Paul, not the whole Scripture.

Les explains that when the feminist movement first began, he read in a major newspaper that they were trying to get the Bible out of all universities and did not want a single copy in them. When a reporter asked why they were so intent on this, the reason given was that they did not like the letters of Paul. If they could just get Paul out of the Bible, they could probably stomach it. Les then notes that anyone who has read the last chapter of Romans could never accuse Paul of being anti-feminist, because he names woman after woman who was part and parcel of his ministry and helped him. He concludes that the Bible is not anti-feminist; in fact, the greatest feminist movement that ever hit the human race was Christianity.
