Do modern enlightened people still fall for idolatry?
Modern so-called enlightened people still fall for idolatry because human nature has not changed. Even intellectuals can worship created things, such as the sun, just as Israel demanded gods when Moses delayed. The same human nature that rejected Christ then would do so today.
Les teaches that human nature is no different today than it was in Israel's day. He says if Christ came on the scene today as He did then, the human race would do the same thing—crucify, reject, and not believe Him. Everything that happened to Israel, he explains, is an exposure of human nature, and we share the same nature. As soon as Moses was out of sight, the people gathered to Aaron and asked him to make them gods to go before them. Les also recalls a television clip of New Agers on a mountainside worshiping the sun and marvels that people of this so-called enlightened day, intellectuals, fall for such garbage—but they do. Israel had God's miraculous deliverance from Egypt, the Red Sea, and the cloud and pillar of fire, yet they still turned to idolatry when Moses delayed.
