What is the third commandment?

The third commandment, found in verse 7, is: Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain. For the Lord will not hold him guiltless who taketh his name in vain. The Lord thy God is attached to this command, as to the first five commandments.

Les explains that the third commandment is given in verse 7: 'Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain.' He notes that the phrase 'the Lord thy God' is attached to every one of the first five commandments. The commandment carries the warning that the Lord will not hold him guiltless who taketh His name in vain. Les then transitions to the fourth command regarding remembering the Sabbath day.

Exodus 20:7

Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.
