What was Israel's calling toward the Gentiles according to the Old Testament, such as Isaiah 42?

Israel was called to be a light to the Gentiles and a kingdom of priests, mediating the knowledge of God and salvation to the nations, as Isaiah 42 and the Old Testament attest. This calling meant they could bring the Gentile world into the knowledge of their God and His salvation.

Les teaches that Israel's calling was to be a nation of priests and to bring salvation and the knowledge of their God to the Gentile world. He points back to Isaiah chapter 42 to show that all the Old Testament speaks of Israel as the light to the Gentiles. This prospect was a valid offer, but Israel rejected it in unbelief, first in His earthly ministry and again after the crucifixion, until God raised up the apostle Paul.
