What had to be accomplished before Christ could return to Israel as king?
Before Christ could return to Israel as King, His atoning work had to be completed, He had to be raised from the dead, and He had to ascend to the Father's right hand, as Psalm 110:1 states, until His enemies are made His footstool. Israel also needed to believe and accept Him.
Les teaches that in Acts 3, Peter addresses Israel as the children of the prophets and of the covenant God made with Abraham. God had raised up His Son Jesus to bless them by turning every one of them from their iniquities. At that point, the atoning work had been accomplished, Christ had been raised from the dead, and He had ascended according to Psalms 110:1, where He sits at the Father's right hand until His enemies are made His footstool. He was ready to come back if Israel would have just believed it. Les notes that God made valid offers knowing they would not be accepted, as with Adam and Eve in the garden and Israel at Kadesh Barnea.
The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.
