Where was Philippi that Paul sailed from in Acts 20:6?
Philippi was located up in northern Greece. From that city Paul and his companions sailed away after the days of unleavened bread, then came to Troas in five days and stayed there seven days. The context identifies it as part of the northern Greek region where believers had received Paul’s message of grace.
Les teaches that in Acts chapter 20, Paul had already been ministering among the Gentiles, and then in verse 6 they sailed away from Philippi. Les explains that Philippi was up in northern Greece, and they sailed from there after the days of unleavened bread, coming to Troas in five days and abiding seven days. He also notes that the disciples in verse 7 were not the Twelve but believers who had become believers through Paul’s preaching of the message of grace in northern Greece, beginning with Thessalonica, Colossae, and Philippi.
And we sailed away from Philippi after the days of unleavened bread, and came unto them to Troas in five days; where we abode seven days.
