What is the way out of the death we are born into?

The way out is dying in the person of Christ on the cross by identification, faith, and trust—believing that when He died, we died. Being planted together in the likeness of His death, we shall also be with Him in resurrection, turning death's penalty into the hope of new life.

Les explains that the whole system of nature—planting a seed that dies and germinates—pictures death, burial, and resurrection. The same is true in the Spirit: we have to die. God told Adam and Eve that in the day they ate they would surely die, and Ezekiel later says the soul that sins shall surely die. Because we are born in sin, we have no alternative but death, yet there is a loophole: we can die in the person of Christ on the cross by identification, faith, and trust, believing that when He died, I died and you died. Paul states that if we have been planted together in the likeness of His death, we shall also be with Him in resurrection. For the believer, death is glorious and is on to something far better; for those who have not experienced this identification, death is fearful and horrible.
