What happens if your name is on a church roll but you are not in the body of Christ?
Having your name on any number of church rolls does not save you. Unless you are in the body of Christ, you are doomed; only the saved are placed into His body by the Holy Spirit. Church membership rolls cannot substitute for genuine salvation and the baptism that counts for eternity.
Les teaches that people can have their names on many church rolls, yet that does not make them members of the body of Christ. Only the saved go into the body; unbelievers are unsaved and cannot be members. The only baptism that counts for eternity is the one by which the Holy Spirit places the true, genuine believer into Christ. Without that, a person is doomed, no matter how many rolls list their name. If one is a child of God, he or she is in the body of Christ by the Spirit’s placement, as Paul makes plain. Members keep individuality yet are one, and fellowship among believers reflects that oneness.
