How was Israel crossing the Red Sea a type of burial and resurrection?
Israel's passage through the Red Sea served as a type of burial and resurrection: they were separated from Egypt, died to Egypt, and emerged on the other side, just as Christ came from the grave and believers are identified with His death, burial, and resurrection.
Les explains that Romans chapter 6 makes plain believers must be identified with the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ. Israel was separated from Egypt and went through the Red Sea as a typical burial; even though they did not get wet, in type it was their burial and death to Egypt. They came out on the other side, even as Christ came from the grave, and believers too. Les connects this to Romans 6:4, being buried with Him by baptism into death, and argues this is not water baptism, because water baptism cannot give new life. Only the power of God can do that. He identifies it as the baptism of the Holy Spirit spoken of in 1 Corinthians chapter 12.
