Who made us fit to share in the inheritance of the saints in light?

According to Colossians 1:12, God the Father is the one who made us meet, or prepared us, to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light. Paul gives thanks to the Father, who has delivered believers from the power of darkness.

Les explains that Colossians 1:12 follows Paul's prayer for the Colossian believers, asking they be strengthened with all might according to God's glorious power. Paul then gives thanks to the Father, who hath made us meet—or prepared us—to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light. The next verse says the Father hath delivered us from the power of darkness and translated us, all in past tense for the believer. Les compares this to Israel at the Red Sea: they were helpless and doomed until the power of God entered in and became their escape. Likewise, every person was separated from God and in the bondage of sin, unable to save themselves. Salvation is not something we work toward or hope for; it is something we have right now by God's power. The Father is the one who qualifies and delivers.
