What did God require for Israel to survive the plague in Exodus 12?
In Exodus 12, God required the blood of a lamb to be applied to the doorposts. That blood was the necessary provision; if it was not placed there, Israel would not have survived the plague. Redemption required the blood, pointing forward to Christ, the New Testament Lamb.
Les explains that the Exodus was a redemption in which God did the redeeming while Israel was helpless, slaves with no army, economic clout, or political power. Redemption required a person, Moses, proven as God's legitimate deliverer by sign miracles: the rod becoming a serpent and the hand becoming leprous and healed. For believers, the person is the Lord Jesus, who proved who He was by His miracles and validated His claim as Redeemer. Especially in Exodus 12 and 13, Les teaches that God required the blood of a lamb placed on the doorpost, or they would never have survived. In the New Testament, our Lamb is Christ.
