What was the spiritual condition of humanity between the Tower of Babel and Abraham?

Between the Tower of Babel and Abraham, the whole human race was saturated in paganism and polytheism—the worship of many gods. The history shows that during this period humanity did not worship the one true God; every person in the populated world was steeped in pagan worship.

Les stresses that ever since the Tower of Babel, the whole human race, until Abraham, was saturated in paganism and polytheism—that is, the worship of many gods. When Israel later appears as God’s separated, different covenant people, they are the only people on earth with a knowledge of the one true God. Les acknowledges that the populated earth was then along the Mediterranean area, into the Middle East, and maybe out to China, but every human being except those coming from Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob were pagan worshipers of the many gods. He says this is hard to swallow, but it is the truth of history: all these people of the world were steeped in paganism, and Israel alone was that little group or nation that had a knowledge of the one true God. He also notes the plagues on Egypt were directed against Egypt’s gods, proving their pagan worship had nothing to do with Him and He could destroy them at will.
