What did the death angel do on the night of the Passover?

On the night of the Passover, the death angel passed throughout Egypt and killed every firstborn of man and beast. It did not strike the Israelites who had applied the blood on their doorposts; when God saw the blood, He passed over them, and they were totally safe behind that door.

Les explains that on the night of the Passover, the death angel was passing throughout Egypt and killing every firstborn of man and beast. God told Israel that the blood on the doorpost would be a token upon their houses, and He said, “When I see the blood, I will pass over you.” Les stresses that the crucial point was not behavior, sinlessness, or a particular way of worship, but only the blood. As gross darkness came upon Egypt, every Jewish family in Goshen had put the blood on the doorpost as instructed. They could hear the weeping, wailing, and mourning throughout Egypt, yet every Jew behind that door with the blood applied was totally safe.
