How do skeptics explain how the Egyptian chariots drowned if the water was only 18 inches deep?

Skeptics say the Red Sea crossing occurred at a shallow end near the Mediterranean, where the water was only about 18 inches deep. Since chariots could not drown in such shallow water, they speculate that a great tidal wave coming off the Mediterranean swept in and drowned the Egyptian army.

Les explains that skeptics try to explain away the miraculous parting of the Red Sea by placing the crossing at the shallower end near the Mediterranean Sea, where they claim the Israelites went through water only 18 inches deep. The article he was reading acknowledged that chariots could not be drowned in 18 inches of water, so it explained the Egyptian drowning by suggesting that the area often has great tidal waves coming in off the Mediterranean, which could have drowned the Egyptians. Les dismisses that explanation as “hogwash” and “bilge water,” because these events are the miraculous, powerful working of an Almighty God.
