What is the Holy Spirit's down payment on our body?
The Holy Spirit’s down payment on the body is the indwelling Holy Spirit Himself, God’s brand and pledge that the not-yet-ready body will be redeemed. It guarantees that one day the believer will receive a new body, reunited with soul and spirit, a complete entity for eternity.
Les teaches that the moment a person is saved, the soul and spirit are totally redeemed and made ready for eternity, but the old body is not ready yet. God has placed His down payment on it through the indwelling Holy Spirit—His brand on us—assuring that whether we go through the valley of the shadow of death, are placed in a cemetery, or face some other bizarre disaster, one day we will have a new body. That new body will be reunited with the soul and spirit so that we are a complete entity for the eternal. He also notes that while we are at home in the body we are absent bodily from the Lord, though spiritually we are already citizens of heaven and have been translated into the kingdom of His dear Son.
