Les Feldick Bible Study

Why did the law's power reach beyond Israel to the whole world?

The law's power extended beyond Israel to the whole world so that every mouth might be stopped and all the world become guilty before God. Since the law gives knowledge of sin and death, no flesh—Jew or Gentile—can be justified by keeping the Ten Commandments.

Les explains that the law was given specifically to Israel, and the Gentiles were never under it. Yet its power did not stop with Israel. As Romans 3:19-20 shows, the law's purpose was to stop every mouth in the whole human race and to make all the world, not just Israel, guilty before God. Therefore, by the deeds of the law, or the keeping of the Ten Commandments, no flesh shall be justified, whether Jew or Gentile. The law is a ministration of condemnation and death because it gives the knowledge of sin and death. That is why its reach extends to all people.

Romans 3:19

Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.
